SPOTLIGHT: Adding Props to the Block Play Area with Tiny Talk Kids Daycare

Tiny Talk Kids Daycare added all sorts of interesting and unexpected items to their block play area after signing up for a recent Creation Station Workshop. When children partake in block play they are able to expand on imagination. Adding various props, like figurines, fabric, and construction paper helps with the development of language, math, and physics.

As a part of this Creation Station Workshop, attendees received a “Before Class Challenge” where children were instructed to pick two to three items from a kit provided by The Wonder Room. The kits were equipped with various materials for children to simultaneously incorporate into their building block area. While children used the items given to them, the providers observed how the children integrated the provided materials with their building blocks. When the Creation Station Workshop was held via Zoom, providers came together to share their experiences and discussed how the children interacted with the materials.

As seen in these photos, the school-age child at Tiny Talk Kids Daycare chose to use fabric, ribbon, and tall tubes from the training kit along with their Lincoln Logs, figurines, and toy cars to create a park scene with a waterfall, a picnic area, and a parking lot.
