CREATING BREASTFEEDING FRIENDLY COMMUNITIES (CBFC)

benefits & eligibility

Breastfeeding helps mothers and babies stay healthy. It provides advantages to babies that cannot be matched by any other form of feeding and strengthens the bond between mother and baby. Child care providers and teachers can have an immediate and positive influence on the lives of the families they serve by setting aside even the smallest space for breastfeeding. By becoming a breastfeeding friendly designated program you can:

  • Remove obstacles that may discourage mothers from breastfeeding

  • Strengthen your relationship with families and parents

  • Be part of the national effort to promote breastfeeding and increase breastfeeding rates

  • Help babies receive a nutritious start

  • Receive financial reimbursements if you participate in the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP)

HOW IT WORKS: A registered dietitian will visit your program and work with you to find the perfect lactation space and arrangement; provide policy development guidance and support; and offer comprehensive education on infant feeding and care. Grants for lactation space furnishings and supplies may be available to child care programs in Albany, Schenectady, and Troy. Call to find out if you qualify.
