COMMUNITY IMPACT PLAN 2023 - 2026

Over the next four years, we will embark on a new set of strategic priorities. We will empower the workforce, elevate the child care industry, and celebrate human development. We will do this by building a collective understanding of the importance of positive early childhood experiences. All our work is done in partnership with early childhood educators; important providers of child care; and intentionally through our guiding principles, to be playful, responsible, respectful, and resilient.

We are creating a systems shift in child care, communities, and policies to value and actively celebrate positive child care experiences for children and families. Our goal is to empathetically improve child care experiences, drive respect for the child care provider, child, and parent, and foster trust. Download the Impact Plan.

Children learn as they play. More importantly, in play, children learn how to learn.

Additionally, the report highlights the connection between the lack of access to child care and children’s health. Also included are recommendations for policymakers and businesses to form key partnerships to close the gap by addressing the child care trilemma: build access to child care, increase affordability and quality, and then maintain quality. THE CAPITAL REGION’S CHILD CARE LANDSCAPE REPORT

Each week, an estimated 38,500 children in New York’s Capital Region attend some type of child care. However, many families are unable to find the high-quality child care they want for their children. Families who find child care are overwhelmed by the cost; spending a significant portion of their income on child care expenses. The average cost for center-based care can cost as much as $14,000 annually for an infant or $11,500 annually for a four-year-old. The inadequate supply, high cost, and inaccessibility of child care burdens families, communities, and businesses resulting in lost productivity, frustration, and all too often low-quality early education experiences.
